Born and raised in Gallup, New Mexico, writer Christine Rogel quickly developed a passion for the people and culture of the West.  

As a journalist, she has covered immigration, education, and business for publications in Arizona and New Mexico, and served as the editor of a 30+ page weekly covering arts, culture, and entertainment for the Las Cruces Sun-News. She was also the editor-in-chief of Western Art & Architecture (circulation 75,000+) from December 2015 to September 2025 and a contributing editor and writer to Big Sky Journal (circulation 55,000+) for many years.

As a freelance writer, her work has ranged from covering news stories and magazine features to writing a documentary script on mountain lions and a collection of New Mexico ghost and folklore stories published by Globe Pequot Publishing, https://rowman.com/ISBN/9781493046904/Haunted-New-Mexico-Ghosts-and-Strange-Phenomena-of-the-Land-of-Enchantment.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in English literature and a master’s degree in journalism from the Walter Cronkite School at Arizona State University. She views journalism as a lifelong education in the world.

Rogel lives in Gallup, New Mexico, where she teaches fine art to 230 elementary students. Today, find her on deadline, in the classroom encouraging her students to use their imaginations, or in the high desert with her bird dog, Drifter.
